Earthbound – An Engineering Approach to Wellness

Earthbound was born from a personal journey and a desire to take a more thoughtful, engineering-driven approach to wellness. The story began with Michael, an industrial engineer specializing in ergonomics and human factors. Throughout his career, Michael focused on injury prevention, improving human performance, and optimizing the way people interact with the systems around them.

Ironically, despite his professional expertise, Michael spent years dealing with persistent physical discomfort and poor sleep quality. After conventional approaches failed to provide lasting results, he began exploring the science of grounding, a practice centered on reconnecting the human body with the Earth's natural electrical environment.

The Science of Grounding

Grounding, also known as earthing, is based on the principle that the Earth maintains a natural electrical charge. Modern lifestyles can create a degree of separation from direct contact with the ground through synthetic flooring, insulated environments, and rubber-soled footwear.

Grounding products are designed to help recreate this connection indoors by using conductive materials that allow the body to interact electrically with the Earth's surface through a grounded outlet. Although spending time outdoors barefoot can provide direct contact with the Earth, Michael found it difficult to maintain consistently because of weather, daily schedules, and modern indoor lifestyles. Drawing on his engineering background, he set out to create a solution that could integrate grounding into an everyday routine without requiring major changes to how people live.

The result was the Earthbound® Grounding Mattress Pad, designed to make grounding convenient while maintaining the comfort and feel of a traditional mattress.
