LuminAID – Bringing Light and Power to Everyone
LuminAID is an innovative solar lighting and portable power brand dedicated to making the world a brighter, safer, and more accessible place. Founded by architects and entrepreneurs Anna Stork and Andrea Sreshta, the company was created with a meaningful mission: to provide safe, reliable lighting and energy solutions to people everywhere, especially those living in communities without dependable access to electricity.
Recognized for its appearance on ABC's Shark Tank, LuminAID combines creative product design, practical technology, and social responsibility to develop innovative lighting solutions for everyday life, outdoor adventures, and emergency situations.
A Mission Inspired by a Humanitarian Need
The story of LuminAID began when co-founders Anna Stork and Andrea Sreshta were architecture students in New York City. Following the devastating earthquake in Haiti, they began thinking about how their design skills could help survivors rebuild their lives and meet their most essential needs.
While food, water, and shelter were among the immediate priorities, stories about dangerous nighttime conditions in temporary shelters made them realize that access to light was another critical necessity. Without reliable lighting, families faced difficulties navigating their surroundings, carrying out daily activities, and staying safe after dark.
Motivated by this challenge, Anna and Andrea developed an innovative solution: an inflatable, foldable solar lantern that could be easily transported and distributed to communities affected by disasters.
Their original design was lightweight, rechargeable, portable, and simple to use. Most importantly, it offered a safer alternative to candles and toxic kerosene lamps for people without reliable electricity.
What began as a student design project soon evolved into a company with a global humanitarian mission. Today, LuminAID continues to work with humanitarian partners around the world to bring dependable lighting and portable power to people who need them most.
Innovative Solar Lighting for Everyday Life
At the heart of LuminAID is the belief that access to light and energy should not be limited by location or circumstances.
The brand develops portable solar-powered lighting products designed to combine convenience, durability, and practical functionality. Its inflatable lantern concept allows products to be folded down for easy storage and transportation, making them particularly useful for camping, hiking, travel, emergency preparedness, and disaster relief.
By harnessing solar energy, LuminAID offers an accessible lighting solution that can help reduce dependence on traditional fuel-based lighting sources. Its rechargeable products are designed to support users in situations where conventional electricity may be unavailable or unreliable.
Beyond lighting, the brand also offers portable power solutions, including solar-powered phone chargers, helping people stay connected when access to electricity is limited.
Whether preparing for an outdoor adventure, dealing with a power outage, or supporting communities during humanitarian emergencies, LuminAID aims to make reliable light and energy more accessible.
Give Light, Get Light – Sharing Brightness Around the World
Social impact has always been an essential part of LuminAID's identity. The company introduced its Give Light, Get Light initiative as a way to connect everyday purchases with meaningful humanitarian contributions.
The program began with an effort to donate lights to Pencils of Promise, an organization dedicated to supporting education and improving learning opportunities for children. Since then, it has become a central part of the brand's mission.
Through the program, supporters can sponsor a solar light or phone charger for a charitable cause of their choice. LuminAID then works to get these products to organizations and distribution partners that can deliver them to families and communities in need.
This initiative allows customers to become part of something bigger than a simple purchase. Every contribution helps extend access to lighting and portable energy while supporting people facing challenging living conditions.
For LuminAID, giving light is about more than illuminating a room or a pathway. It is about creating opportunities, improving safety, supporting education, and bringing hope to communities around the world.
Recognized for Innovation and Social Impact
LuminAID gained wider recognition after appearing on ABC's popular television show Shark Tank, where its innovative solar lighting concept attracted attention for combining practical design with a meaningful social mission.
The brand's approach demonstrates how thoughtful innovation can address real-world challenges while creating products that serve both everyday consumers and humanitarian needs.
By bringing together design expertise, renewable energy, and community-focused initiatives, LuminAID continues to show that businesses can make a positive difference through both their products and their purpose.
