Before founding Lusomé, Lara Smith spent more than 20 years working at the highest levels of the fashion industry. Her career began with renowned brands such as Ralph Lauren and Gucci, before moving into senior executive roles with some of Canada's largest retailers, where she developed extensive knowledge of fabrics, fashion, and innovative textiles.

Lara understood what made fabrics exceptional and what made women feel beautiful. But in 2012, her perspective changed when her sister was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Her sister's treatment caused early menopause and severe night sweats. Night after night, she would wake up drenched in sweat, uncomfortable, and unable to sleep properly. Lara searched across North America and Europe for sleepwear that could help, but the available options were largely made from polyester and chemical treatments.

The products might have been functional, but they lacked the combination of comfort, beauty, and quality that women deserve.

That experience inspired Lara to create something different.

Drawing on decades of experience in fashion and textiles, Lara brought together textile scientists to develop innovative proprietary fabric technologies.
